ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Jon Bubbett is a native of Dothan, AL. He attended Dothan High School, graduating in 1977. He also attended Troy State University, graduating with a BMEd. in 1981. Mr. Bubbett received his MMEd. from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL in 1989.

Mr. Bubbett retired from teaching in 2019 after serving 38 years as a high school and middle school band director. The last 26 of those years were spent at Thompson High School in Alabaster, AL.

Mr. Bubbett’s bands have performed in a variety of venues across the country including Music For All National Concert Band Festival, CBDNA / NBA Southern Division Conference, University Alabama Honor Band, University of Georgia JanFest and several others.

Mr. Bubbett is also a seven-time recipient of the NBA Citation of Excellence Award. Under his direction the Thompson Wind Ensemble is one of the recipients of the National Band Association Programs of Excellence “Blue Ribbon” Award for 2014. He is also the recipient of the Phi Beta Mu, Rho Chapter (Alabama) 2015 “Bandmaster of the Year” Award.

Mr. Bubbett has served as a guest clinician and adjudicator in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi as well as having served as clinician / panelist for both the Alabama Music Educators Association In-Service Conference and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic.
